Film Review – The Kissing Booth (2018)

by Nick Kush
The Kissing Booth

Netflix allows subgenres that have fallen by the wayside in recent years a chance at some sort of revival.  It’s been no secret that the teenage rom-com isn’t exactly in theaters very often anymore — nor do they attract the same up-and-coming actors.  However, Netflix’s The Kissing Booth looks to change that trend by offering quality entertainment — and by bringing a star back into the limelight.

The review above is spoiler free.

Synopsis

Directed By: Vince Marcello

Written By: Vince Marcello

Starring: Joey King, Molly Ringwald, Joel Courtney, Meganne Young, and Jacob Elordi

When Elle Evans (Joey King), a pretty, late-bloomer who’s never-been-kissed, decides to run a kissing booth at her high school’s Spring Carnival, she unexpectedly finds herself locking lips with her secret crush — the ultimate bad boy, Noah Flynn (Jacob Elordi). Sparks fly, but there’s one little problem: Noah just happens to be the brother of her best friend, Lee, (Joel Courtney) and is absolutely off-limits according to the rules of their friendship pact. Elle’s life is turned upside down when she realizes that she must ultimately make a choice: follow the rules or follow her heart.

Thanks for this. I’m always on the lookout for movies my 13-yr-old would be interested in. Also, I love your tagline, “The casual way to discuss movies.”

I did check out this movie after your review and I loved it! Yes, some of the lines in this movie were very cheezy but it had me remembering all those great firsts and made me super happy! I had all the girls in my family watch it and they all loved it especially the young ones! The only thing that all of us agreed on was the ending could have been better, its too close to reality and who watches movies for that! Thanks for the review and the recommendation, I prob would have missed this movie otherwise.
